Application for Membership on the ILS Board of Directors

As per all charitable organizations, the management of the affairs of Independent Living Services of Simcoe County & Area is delegated by the membership of the Association to a Board of Directors, who are formally elected by the membership. The role of the Board has evolved over time, with the growth of the agency and its programs. Currently the Board has adopted a modified Carver Model of Board governance, which emphasizes outward vision rather than an internal preoccupation, encouragement of diversity in viewpoints, strategic leadership more than administrative detail, clear distinction of Board and administration roles, collective rather than individual decisions, future rather than past or present focus, and proactive activity rather than reactivity. The operations of the agency have been delegated to the Executive Director within guidelines and expectations clearly outlined by the Board of Directors.

The terms of our Bylaws ensure that regular turnover occurs on our Board of Directors, as the maximum term in office is 6 years, except for the immediate past Chair. Applicants for membership on the Board of Directors for this charitable organization must be at least 18 years of age, a Canadian Citizen, and have an interest in supporting individuals with physical disabilities and limitations throughout Simcoe County. ILS also seeks geographic representation from across the County. Director positions are strictly voluntary. Travel expenses are reimbursed for commutes outside the Barrie area. Orientation, training and support are available to Board members on an ongoing basis.

There are 12 voluntary positions on the Board of Directors.
