Independent Living Services is here to understand your needs.

We’re here to understand your needs and get you connected to the solutions that are right for you. There is no one size fits all when it comes to programs. The primary role of Independent Living Services (ILS) is to act as a physical extension of the person in a way that promotes independence, dignity and respect. Assistance with personal care is the primary focus of what we do. It is a non-medical model of care designed for seniors and adults with significant disabilities. All of our programs are provided at no cost and are funded by the Ministry of Health from the LHIN and medical referrals are not needed. If any of our programs match what you’re looking for, give us a call.

I’m looking for…

We’re here to support your independent living. At ILS, our approach to independent living is based on the Independent Living Movement that came about in the 1960’s. This philosophy centers the choice, control and freedom of individuals, so that the care you receive is based on self-determination. This approach to care means that you get to make decisions about your own life and what works best for you in your own community. We’re here to work with you to take care of your needs. I’m looking for:
support with daily activities at home

Personal Support Services

We help people live independently in their homes with activities of daily living. These supports are prescheduled according to your assessed needs. This can be things like helping with washing and dressing or help with mobility or with medications. Based on your assessed needs, we will develop a care plan with you.

For example…

I’m 90 years old and live alone. I can still do many things, but I need assistance to bathe safely.

I’m a 45 year-old with a physical disability that limits my mobility. I need help with my daily activities, like getting out of bed, getting dressed and using the bathroom.

I’m 16 years old, with a spinal cord injury living with my parents. I would like to be independent with my personal care needs.

I’m looking for:
support with daily activities at work or school

Personal Support & Assisted Living Services

Independent Living Services provides personal care such as toileting, eating and medication to individuals with physical disabilities in their place of employment, and/or where they are pursuing education between 6am-12am.

For example…

I’m a person with a physical disability working in the community and require assistance with feeding and toileting on my lunch break.

I’m a college student with a physical disability and require help toileting twice a day while I’m at school.

I’m looking for:
someone to check on me sometimes

Reassurance Checks

Sometimes the comfort of a professional check-in can go a long way to help people live safely. This can make the difference between staying in your home, and moving somewhere with more supervision – keep your privacy and your safety.  Independent Living Services can do reassurance checks for seniors and people with physical disabilities. We do reassurance checks based on individual needs. These check-ins are offered twenty-four (24) hours a day, seven (7) days a week. These can be on a regular basis or as needed. You and your family can rest easier with this extra level of safety.

For example…

I’m an 87-year-old man who lives alone. I can manage on my own and a reassurance call to remind me to take my medications would keep me safe and wouldn’t interfere with my life too much.

My elderly father lives alone and has some health issues. I live out of town and we decided that a scheduled reassurance check would give us both some peace of mind.

I’m looking for:
homemaking

Homemaking Assistance

We’re dedicated to keeping people in their homes as long as possible. Independent Living Services offers homemaking for individuals already receiving personal support. These services include essential light homemaking such as grocery shopping and meal prep.

For example…

I’m 87 and no longer drive. It’s difficult to go grocery shopping by myself, so I need someone to help me with this.

I’m paraplegic and need help with doing things around the house, like cleaning and cooking.

Contact us for more details.
